A Study on the Effect of the Participation in the Job Creation Projects for the Elderly on the Social Relations of the Participants -Focused on Jeonnam Province-

Abstract

|
This study aims to examine the influences of silver employment project on the participants‘ social relationship and verify the effectiveness of silver employment project. The subjects of the study were 256 including participants in silver employment project who were residing in Naju and Mokpo regions, Jeollanam-do province over 60 years old and non-participants and data collected were analyzed with SPSS Win 17.0 program. The results of analysis were as follows. First, the size of social relationship in respondents according to participation or non-participation in silver employment project showed no significant difference. Second, the contact of social relationship was more frequent in participants than in non-participants. Third, support functions of social relationship were better in participants than in non-participants. In addition, as a result of hierarchical regression analysis to know the influential factors of social relationship of the subjects, participation or non-participation of silver employment project, sex, age, marital status, education, health condition and income level explained 26.9% of frequency variance of the whole social relationship and 44.4% of total social relationship support variables. This study made three policy suggestions based on the results of the study. First, Government needs to reestablish the fundamental ideas of the project policy of creating a job for the aged. Second, the aged in absolute poverty should be given a chance to take a part in employment project. Finally, Employment project for the aged in rural areas should be extended.
